The end of this upcoming week will conclude the first phase of the Feisty Piranha Project. Since we haven’t publicly revealed what the project is about yet, I’m afraid I can’t tell you much about we’ve accomplished
I can tell you that we’ve done a lot in a very short amount of time and the app seems to be on track in terms of the features that Dusty and myself expected to have done.
For those of you interested in how we’re developing the Feisty Piranha application: we’ve taken the “No Functional Spec” approach - one of the many nuggets of advice featured in 37signals’ “Getting Real” book. More specifically, Dusty and myself drew out the basic features of the application and how it should look, feel, and flow - long before the internship started. Purposefully, we didn’t fill in all the details.
Now, as we’re in the process of creating and developing, we’re filling in the details as we need them - all while keeping in mind the overarching goals and vision of the project.
Some of the features have been derived solely from the design mock ups that Erin #2 has created, others from spur-of-the-moment ideas by Allyn or Robert. Also important are constraint-based factors: not enough time, not technically possible, not important, not user friendly…oh, and not legal ;). All in all, It’s very interesting to see how the nitty gritty details of the application are determined.
Other discoveries have been made in our short time all working together. Allyn and Robert have found out the power of the hacking light and Erin has found a great to way show how much progress she’s made. Nice guys.
